my great wife

May 31, 2008

I wrote about my boys the other day here. I needed to take a second and talk about my wife. She’s my better part as the older folks would say. Amy means a lot to me. We’ve been through a lot together, instead of just raising our two boys, we helped raise 30+ girls as well. We’ve been at several churches doing various ministry, and Amy is the hardest worker I know. So what i want to say is my wife is the biggest blessing in my life, love you Amy.

This made me laugh

It’s a little old, from a couple of years ago, but somebody sent it to me recently.

My boys

May 28, 2008

I’ve been thinking a lot about my two boys. First off, I feel weird that I’m old enough to have a 7 year old and a 5 year old, but they’re great kids. Its funny the times that I look at them and think this is exactly what my mom and dad dealt with with my brother and I. They squabble and fight just like Nate and I did. But again, they’re great kids. Its so cool to see the different personalities they have. I took Josiah to see Prince Caspian last weekend and he loved it. John-David can’t sit still in the movies. Each time we’ve taken him, we’ve said it would be the last for a long time. John-David will sit there and color or write and Josiah would rather read or play on the computer. I know some of the differences are just developmental as far as their ages. I’m so proud of Josiah, he’s making healthy choices with food and has lost 10 pounds. He’s very happy about that. According to Josiah’s testing in school, he was one of the brightest kids in 1st grade (didn’t need testing to show that). John-David is gearing up for kindergarten next year and is extremely excited about it.

The thing I love most about my kids though is that they have a hunger for the things of God. They are already learning what it means to worship. My kids are the best. The pics below were some silly pictures we took a few months back.

I’m craving (for all those who wear contacts or glasses)

May 27, 2008

I lost my last pair of contacts about 2 months ago. Well, I lost one of them and the other is useless now. So, for the last 2 months, I’ve had to wear glasses. I hate glasses, I’ve worn contacts for 16 years. Right now, with gas prices and other bills, we just can’t afford to have me go get my eyes examined (and see how much worse they’ve gotten) and then pay for contacts. So, I’ve been craving contacts, hoping, praying, wishing that things will get a little better soon so I can do it.

Hmm, I wonder how bad the headache would be from just wearing one contact all day. J/K.

Being an insurance agent

May 27, 2008

The nature of my job is such that I’m on the phone for a long time each day. Thats what I’m there for. I’ve wondered often if this is what I was supposed to be doing. Something happened the other day that confirmed that I can use the job as a ministry. I spoke to somebody on the phone who had missed payments on their previous insurance policy and lapsed. The reason they missed payments was that they were dealing with cancer. I got to tell her that I would pray for them, and I did. I also got to minister to her to let them know I knew someone else going through the same type of cancer and was doing well, this encouraged this person. I then set them up on insurance.

I’ve fallen into the trap before of having jobs where I wasn’t happy, its easy to happen to anyone. I’m glad God has shown me that I can find ways to shine.

Oh and somebody rightly pointed out that I have a habit of starting out strong on things and then letting them slip, so I’m going to do my best to post as often as possible.

Weird Happening

May 26, 2008

So, I was throwing a football with Josiah, my son and another guy from our community. We got to talking about where we were from. I told him that I used to live in High Point, he said he only knew one person by that name. He said the name, then I said, well I only know one person by that name. As we talked, it turned out it was the same person, a girl I went to high school with. Now, High Point is not a metropolis, but its not exactly tiny either. Turns out that the girl married into his family and lives in GA now. It just really was weird, cause I don’t talk to anybody from High School and don’t get up to High Point often. Guess its kind of like six degrees of seperation

The best mother-son duet ever

May 26, 2008

Last Sunday, my wife and son son sang a duet at church. I have to warn you though, its been outlawed in 30 states and 10 countries so far, for its ability to make you cry. Don’t say I didn’t warn you. Here it is Josiah and Amy

It couldn’t be sung on mother’s day as we had no power at our church due to the tornado that hit Macon two weeks ago.

Numero Uno

May 26, 2008

Ok, so I got inspired by my Dad’s blog- Dad’s blog It made me want to start one of my own. So I’ll be talking about family, friends, ministry, all those type of things. This blog in no way reflects Doles United Methodist Church, although I may talk about it from time to time.

We had a great service yesterday. You can watch it here: Church Service Well, besides the fact that I didn’t proofread the slides well enough for the service. We started the pledge of allegiance and half way through it skipped to the end. Dohhhh. Anyways besides that, we did some cool stuff with pictures, video, sound, lighting, it was like a multimedia explosion of fun (yeah, just like that). This upcoming month, we’re going to emphasize the contemporary, then the following will be the traditional. We really honored the veteran’s yesterday, it was cool to do so, if you haven’t seen it, you need to see this video, we showed it yesterday- Video from church

My job is going fantastic. I’ll be sharing stories from talking to people about insurance. Both some cool ways I get to minister, and funny stories. One story that sticks out right now, was when somebody came on the line, told me in colorful language that I needed to get a real job and a college degree while I was at it. Funny huh? Actually it was to me, he just hung up after he did it (probably worked for State Farm). But working for the caveman is going quite well.

We’ve got a pool party in our neighborhood, The boys love to go swimming, so that’s what we’ll be up to today. So that’s the first post, here’s to many more.
